Two face drug charges after traffic stop in Morris County

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A traffic stop led to the arrest of two people on drug charges, police said.

On October 28, at around 2:46 p.m., police observed a black jeep liberty bearing fictitious plates outside the Minute Mart on route 46 in Budd Lake. The officers then stopped the vehicle at Kennedy’s Budd Lake Motel on Route 46, police said.

Police discovered that the passenger, who was identified as Matthew J. Niper, 31, of Budd Lake, had a $750 Hopatcong warrant and a $500 Mount Olive Township warrant. He was then arrested and searched incident to arrest, and officers allegedly located multiple prescription medications on his person, police said.

Police later determined that the prescription medications were allegedly sold to Niper by the driver, who was identified as Robert J. Mauro, 38, of Lodi, police said.

Niper was charged with possession of narcotics, and contempt of court for the warrants. He posted the bail on the warrants and was given a new court date. He was then released pending a court appearance, police said.

Mauro was charged with distribution of narcotics and possession with intent to distribute narcotics. He was then released pending a court appearance, police said.
