U.S. Customs and Border Protection recovered 365 stolen vehicles at the Port of New York/Newark so far this year

NEWARK, NJ – U. S. Customs and Border Protection at the Port of New York/Newark on Wednesday seized seven outbound stolen vehicles bringing their total for fiscal year 2023 to 365 recovered stolen vehicles, one for each day of the fiscal year, and it isn’t over yet, officials said.

CBP has worked with Homeland Security Investigations – led Newark Auto Export Crimes Task Force and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Department, without whose help this record achievement would not be possible.

These latest seven vehicles recovered on Sept. 21, were destined to Western African countries, with an estimated value of $395,967.  That brings the overall value of the 365 vehicles recovered so far this year to an astounding $21,035,930.

“When law enforcement partners together and shares their expertise, it acts as a force multiplier against these complex, international criminal organizations,” said Francis J. Russo, Director New York Field Operations. “Our continued diligence and determination in dismantling these dangerous transnational criminal organizations by using a multi-pronged approach, disrupts these illegal organizations and causes them financial pain while protecting our community.”
