UPDATE: State police release identities of 2 pedestrians killed on I-80 in Warren County

KNOWLTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) -The two pedestrians killed on Interstate 80 in Warren County early Monday morning have been identified as 73-year-old Richard Dennelly and 55-yearold Maria Schellberg both of Great Neck, NY, New Jersey State Police Sergeant Alejandro Goez said Monday night.

The crash occurred at 3:01 a.m. on Interstate 80 eastbound at milepost 1.8 in Knowlton Township, Goez said..

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Honda SUV was traveling east on I-80 when the vehicle struck Dennelly and Schellberg, Goez said.

Dennelly and Schellberg sustained fatal injuries and the driver of the vehicle was not injured, Goez said.

I-80 eastbound was closed for 3 hours resulting in heavy traffic congestion, state police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. It wasn’t released why the pedestrians were on the highway.
