VA authorized urgent care facility for veterans re-established in Hunterdon County

FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Freeholder Board Deputy Director Susan Soloway announced Tuesday the availability of a new VA approved local urgent care facility in Flemington for eligible county Veterans that will provide an in-county location for treatment of minor injuries and illnesses, without a long drive for Veterans to a different county or neighboring state.

Soloway, the Board’s Veterans liaison, said, “The return of a Department of Veterans Affairs approved healthcare center for our area, particularly to give relief to our elderly and disabled Veterans who may have difficulty with transportation has been a priority for the Freeholder Board since the RWJ Urgent Care center no longer provided VA sponsored service early last year.”

“For almost two years I have been hearing from Veterans around the county about their need for a local urgent care center, to reduce the distance they had to travel for healthcare that didn’t require a hospital visit. It has been my number one goal to stay on top of this with the Veteran’s Administration (VA) to open a location for Hunterdon County,” Hunterdon County’s Veterans Services Officer (VSO) Rich Booth said.

Urgent Care Centers treat injuries and illnesses that require immediate attention but are not life-threatening. To be eligible, a Veteran must be enrolled in the VA healthcare system and have received care through a VA or a VA provider within the last twenty-four months.

VA approved Urgent Care Centers do not require prior authorization to receive treatment and no co-payments are collected for the first three visits if eligible.

“Providing a way to get immediate healthcare reduces the stress so many of our Veterans have had trying to find VA approved services in our area. Credit goes to VSO Booth for shepherding the effort to regain this service for Hunterdon County through the VA process,” Soloway said.
