Warren County Commissioner James Kern visits Warren Hills Regional High School

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Warren County Commissioner James R. Kern III recently visited Warren Hills Regional High School in Washington Township for a tour conducted by the current Warren County Teacher of the Year, Daryl Detrick.

As Warren Hills Blue Streaks and North Warren Patriots softball teams scrimmaged and the school’s theater department conducting a dress rehearsal for their upcoming production of Anastasia, Kern had the opportunity to witness the school’s commitment to academic and extracurricular excellence.

Kern spoke with two students on the Warren Hill’s Robotics Team, who recently took home the 2023 Innovation in Control Award while hosting the US FIRST Mid-Atlantic: FIRST Robotics Competition District Event. Students Heidi Kling and Cole Gibilisco had the chance to do a demonstration for Kern, showing off the amazing capabilities of their student-made robot.

“I want to be an engineer and my teachers have given me the opportunity to learn and implement so many high-level skills you usually wouldn’t learn until college,” said junior Heidi Kling.

Sophomore Cole Gibilisco said, “I love building things. Although I don’t know too much about the coding, robotics has physical, computing, and creative elements to it, so there is a little bit for everyone and there are so many different ways to be involved.”

“I am so impressed with the work these students do,” Kern said. “Their knowledge of robotics and coding at such a young age is remarkable. It is no surprise Daryl Detrick won teacher of the year; his passion is contagious amongst the students. Warren Hills should be so proud of these students, they truly are a great representation of academic excellence here in Warren County.”

The Warren County School District remains dedicated to providing an environment that nurtures and empowers students to achieve their goals, and their ongoing success is a testament to the commitment and dedication of the district’s teachers, staff, and administrators.
