Warren County Sheriff’s Office warns of scam calls spoofing their number

WARREN COUNTY, NJ – Warren County Sheriff James J. McDonald, Sr. is cautioning residents to be aware of a telephone scam by a caller claiming to be from the sheriff’s office and spoofing their number.

There have been several calls being made by a man identifying himself as Sergeant Webster of the Warren County Sheriffs Office to individuals accusing them of being in contempt of court for failure to appear in court, McDonald said.

The man speaks about a signature received as a result of a subpoena and the failure of the individual to comply. He claims to have an arrest warrant and threatens arrest, McDonald said.

“Be advised that our office does not employ a Sergeant Webster and that these calls are a scam seeking to solicit personal information,” McDonald said.

“I cannot stress enough that the Warren County Sheriff’s Office will never call you and demand money, McDonald said.

If anyone receives these types of calls, McDonald recommends that you inform the caller that you will be terminating the call and that you will telephone the Sheriffs Office directly. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office main number is 908-475-6309.
