Warren County to host Patriot Day ceremony on Sunday, September 11

UPDATE: Today’s 18th Annual Patriot Day Observance has been cancelled due to the weather. A new date for the ceremony at the Warren County Emergency Services and 9/11 Memorial that marks the 21st anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01 will be announced.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – The Warren County Emergency Services 9/11 Committee’s 18th Annual Patriot Day Observance will be held at the Warren County Emergency Services and 9/11 Memorial on Sunday, September 11 at 2:00 p.m. to mark the 21st anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01.

The ceremony also will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the memorial, located at 1500 Route 57, in Washington Township between the Warren County Technical School and the Warren County Community College.

Warren County Board of County Commissioners Director Jason J. Sarnoski will serve as keynote speaker, while Deputy Director Lori Ciesla and Commissioner James R. Kern III, Public Safety Director Frank Wheatley, and Deputy Public Safety Director Dennis Riley are scheduled to participate.

The ceremony honors all who perished in those terrorist attacks as well as Warren County Emergency Service personnel who have died in the line of duty.

The ceremony will include a remembrance of the Warren County residents who died that day:

  • Deepa K. Pakkala, Greenwich Township – North Tower
  • Bruce A. Reynolds, Knowlton Township (Port Authority Patrolman and Knowlton Firefighter) – South Tower
  • Bruce E. Simmons, Hackettstown – South Tower
  • Robert C. Miller Jr., Belvidere – South Tower

The public is invited to attend the ceremony. First responders – the fire, law enforcement and emergency medical service personnel from throughout Warren County – will be participating.
