WATCH: 2 people rescued from sinking vehicle in Morris County retention pond

PEQUANNOCK TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Two people were rescued when their vehicle crashed into a retention pond earlier this month in Pequannock Township, according to a post on the Pequannock Township Police Department’s Facebook page.

On April 2, officers responded to a report of a vehicle that had driven into the water in a retention pond at Cedar Crest Village, police said.

Sgt. Dericks, Ptl. Parigi and Ptl. Knatz arrived on scene and were able to remove the passenger and driver to safety as the murky water was filling the vehicle, the post said.

Cedar Crest Security, Pequannock First Aid Squad and Fire Department were on scene to assist.

“Surprisingly, the Body Worn Camera was in good shape after being submerged in the water but the same can’t be said for the officers’ boots!,” police said.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear and there were no details whether there were injuries to the driver or the passenger.
