Welfare check leads to DWI, drug arrest in Morris County

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man is facing several charges following a welfare check Tuesday night in Denville Township.

On Jan. 9, at around 9:30 p.m., police conducted a welfare check on an individual, who was later identified as Steven Alterisio, 31, of Madison Borough, in the parking lot of the BP gas station, located at 42 East Main Street, police said

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Alterisio was allegedly intoxicated and was arrested for driving while intoxicated. A search of the vehicle revealed CDS and related paraphernalia, police said.

Alterisio was charged with possession of CDS, prescription legend drug, under the influence of CDS, use of drug paraphernalia, possession of certain prescription drugs, driving while intoxicated, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, careless driving and reckless driving.
