Woman faces DWI, drug charges following traffic stop in Sussex County

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County woman is facing several charges including driving while intoxicated and possession of drugs following a traffic stop Sunday morning in Byram Township.

On Dec. 17, at 12:09 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle speeding on Route 206. The officer then stopped the vehicle nd while speaking to the driver, who was identified as Lastasia Godwin, 30, of Sussex, the officer felt Godwin may be intoxicated, police said.

Godwin performed several field sobriety tests, which she allegedly failed. She was then arrested and a subsequent search of her vehicle produced a quantity of ecstasy, Adderall and a can of mace, police said.

She was transported to the police station where she consented to and failed two breath tests, police said.

Godwin was charged with possession of ecstasy, possession of Adderall, possession of mace greater than 3/4 of an ounce, driving while intoxicated, unsealed cannabis container in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, careless driving, reckless driving, speeding and failure to keep right.

She was then released pending a court appearance.
