Woman sentenced to probation for assault by auto in Sussex County

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Morris County woman was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to assault by auto, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.

Jennifer Sugarman, 36, of Lincoln Park Borough was sentenced don Jan. 26 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Taggart said.

Sugarman was sentenced to 3 years probation and in addition to the standard conditions of probation, she must undergo a TASC evaluation, follow all recommendations, and complete 100 hours of Community Service work, Taggart said.

She had previously been sentenced on a related DWI and Refusal to Submit charge which will run concurrent to probation. The DWI and Refusal to Submit had a sentence of seven months loss of license, 12 hours IDRC and minimum mandatory fines and fees, Taggart said.

Sugarman pled guilty on Nov. 9 to fourth-degree assault by auto. In pleading guilty, she admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol which subsequently led to a motor vehicle accident with another driver, Taggart said.

Sugarman was represented by Michael Cuellar, Esq., and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General and Acting Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
