Woman struck, injured by car in Weis parking lot in Newton

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Newton woman was injured after being struck by a car in the parking lot of Weis Markets in Newton, according to police.

On Jan. 18 at 12:26 p.m., officers responded to the Weis Markets parking lot, located at 119 Water Street, for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle, police said.

When officers arrived, the officers observed the adult female pedestrian, who was later identified to be Yalanda Ford, 49, lying on the pavement with a complaint of pain to her right hip, police said.

Ford was transported to the Newton Medical Center by Newton First Aid Squad.

A witness stated that she was with Ford and as they neared a concrete island in front of Weis Markets, Ford was suddenly struck by a vehicle, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, Nasir Siddiqui, 58, of Newton told police that he had just left a parking space and he was making a left hand turn to drive out and he failed to observe Ford and struck her, police said.
