Body of 20-year-old man reported missing in Roxbury Township found in Sunset Lake

ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – The body of a 20-year-old man who was reported missing earlier this month was recently found in Sunset Lake in Roxbury Township, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said Monday.

Altariq Hickson was last seen at his residence in Roxbury Township on March 6 and he was reported missing on March 12, Carroll said.

Hickson’s personal effects were discovered on Mine Hill Beach and a search of the area was conducted by the Morris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, and the Morris County Office of Emergency Management, Carroll said.

A subsequent search of Sunset Lake by the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) on March 19 led to the recovery of a body, believed to be Hickson, Carroll said.

The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office took possession of the remains and the body was later confirmed to be Hickson, Carroll said.

The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be drowning and the manner of death to be accidental, Carroll said.

“While the investigation remains ongoing, the incident has been deemed not suspicious at this time,” Carroll said.

The investigation is being conducted by the Roxbury Township Police Department, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, and the MCPO Missing Persons Unit.

Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to contact the Roxbury Police Department at 973-448-2100 or the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-6200.
