Centenary University names technology leader Ronald G. Garriques to Board of Trustees

A trailblazer in the consumer electronics and mobile technology markets, Garriques is currently the founder, CEO, and a board member at Gee Partnership Holdings

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) — Centenary University has named Ronald G. Garriques to its Board of Trustees, the governing body of the University.

A trailblazer in the global consumer electronics and mobile technology market, Garriques is currently founder, president, and a board member of Gee Partnership Holdings. He is a resident of Lake Forest, Ill.

In announcing Garriques’ appointment, Board Chair Rochelle Makela-Goodman, a 1997 graduate of Centenary, said, “I am extremely pleased to welcome Mr. Garriques to the Centenary University Board of Trustees.

A longtime supporter of the University, he believes in Centenary’s important educational and economic contributions to northwestern New Jersey and beyond.”

Centenary University President Dale Caldwell, Ed.D., noted that Mr. Garriques’ global business background will provide valuable guidance to the board: “Centenary is moving quickly to advance my strategic vision to establish this University as a worldwide educational institution with a reputation for innovation and excellence. Mr. Garriques’ broad experience in technology and finance will play a key role in transforming Centenary’s educational programs to meet the needs of our increasingly  complex global society.”

Garriques began his career at AT&T, Inc., and Lucent Technologies, Inc., before accepting a position at Motorola, Inc., in 1998. For the next nine years, he accepted positions of increasing importance, eventually serving as executive vice president and president of Motorola’s Mobile Devices Business.

As chief executive of this $30 billion business unit employing 23,000 people worldwide, he delivered eight consecutive quarters of improved operating earnings on a year-over-year basis, as well as eight consecutive quarters of improved global market share on a sequential basis. He led the Motorola business during the creation of the RAZR mobile phone. In 2007, he joined Dell, Inc., serving first as president of the Global Consumer Business Unit and then as president of the Communication Solutions Group.

Garriques earned a Bachelor Science in Mechanical Engineering, summa cum laude, from Boston University, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
