Cow ‘moooving’ again after being rescued from mud in Hunterdon County

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Crews in Hunterdon County made an unusual rescue on Saturday when they saved a cow that had gotten stuck in the mud.

On May 4, at 5:44 p.m., first responders were dispatched to Holland Brook Road near Cole Road in Readington Township for a large cow trapped in the mud, approximately 50 yards off the roadway, according to the Whitehouse Rescue Squad.

Given the complexity of such incidents which require a lot of manpower and specialized equipment, crews called for a response from the Hunterdon County Technical Rescue Task Force, authorities said.

“We’re grateful for the swift response of two local veterinarians who joined efforts to provide essential care to the distressed animal,” the post said.

Through coordinated efforts and utilizing specialized equipment, including slings and the Readington Township DPW skid steer, the cow was safely rescued and is now back on solid ground, moving freely, officials said.
