Hunterdon County BMX showcases new track lights

“Director Kuhl and Deputy Director Soloway on Hand for Special Occasion”

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Hunterdon County Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl and Deputy Director Susan Soloway Friday presented a proclamation to Hunterdon County BMX (HCBMX) in recognition of the BMX Under The Lights opening event.

The proclamation was accepted on behalf of the organization by Carol Hample, the Track Operator.

“It is great to see so many residents and families here tonight! On behalf of myself and the entire Commissioner Board, I would like to congratulate Hunterdon County BMX as it ushers in this next phase of BMX events with the addition of lights to its track. This Board is proud of their partnership with HCBMX and wishes all the best to its members and volunteers,” Kuhl said.

In 1978, Pete’s Bike Shop of Flemington took a chance on a relatively new sport to the East Coast, Bicycle Motocross Racing and in front of their shop in the then hilly, farm area of Hunterdon County they set up a small oval track known as “The Oval.”

Flemington/Raritan Parks and Recreation Commission donated land for a new track, which opened April 18, 1981, and held its Grand Opening 15 days later, on May 3, 1981. Hunterdon County BMX has relied on community support over the years to create a fun, safe and competitive track, that features paved turns, an announcer’s tower and this year’s newest addition, lights.

“The Hunterdon County BMX track has been a hub of excitement for riders of all ages. Whether you are a seasoned rider or a newcomer, this track offers an exciting experience for BMX enthusiasts,” Soloway said.
