Man pleads guilty in theft of catalytic converter in Sussex County

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A New York man has entered a guilty plea to theft and criminal mischief, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.

Frank MacChurch, 62, of Middletown pled guilty to fourth-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree theft on June 22 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Taggart said.

In pleading guilty, MacChurch admitted that in Montague Township he did commit theft by unlawfully taking a catalytic converter. He also admitted to committing the offense of criminal mischief by purposely, knowingly or recklessly damaging tangible property belonging to the victim, Taggart said.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 11.

MacChurch was represented by Bruce Farrier, Esq., and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General and Acting Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
