Morris County man killed in crash on I-78 in Union County

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Union County) – A Morris County man was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 78 in Union County Tuesday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 12:28 p.m. on Interstate 78 eastbound in Springfield Township, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Trooper Charles Marchan said.

A preliminary police investigation  revealed that in the area of Exit 49B, a crash occurred involving a dump truck, a tractor-trailer and a Dodge Ram pickup truck, Marchan said.

The driver of the dump truck, who was identified as Kevin A. Cougle, 54, of Rockaway, suffered fatal injuries in the crash, Marchan said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
