1 dead after SUV crashes into tractor-trailer parked on shoulder of I-80 in Morris County

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Passaic County man died after his SUV crashed into a tractor-trailer parked on the shoulder of Interstate 80 in Morris County Monday night, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Jeffrey Lebron.

The crash occurred around 11:07 p.m. on Interstate 80 westbound at milepost 37.6 in Rockaway Township, Lebron said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Kia SUV, driven by a 52-year-old male from Haledon, was traveling westbound on I-80 when it collided with the rear of a Freightliner tractor-trailer parked on the right shoulder of the highway, Lebron said.

The driver of the Kia sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the driver is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, Lebron said.

No other injuries were reported in the crash, Lebron said.

The incident remains under investigation, Lebron said.
