127,887 pounds of Deli Express BBQ pulled pork sandwiches recalled for possible plastic contamination

E.A. Sween Company of Eden Prairie, Minn., is recalling approximately 127,887 pounds of a pulled pork sandwich product that may be contaminated with pieces of plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Monday.

The recall covers 5.5-ounce paper-wrapped “Deli EXPRESS BBQ PULLED PORK on a sesame bun” sandwiches produced on various dates between Jan. 13, 2025, and Oct. 15, 2025. The products bear the establishment number “EST. 2451” inside the USDA mark of inspection and were shipped to retail locations nationwide, including the Department of Defense, FSIS said.

The problem was discovered after multiple consumer complaints about pieces of plastic found in the sandwiches. The company determined the material originated from gallon plastic barbecue bottles used in production. No injuries have been confirmed, but anyone concerned should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS said some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Do not eat these sandwiches. Consumers should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.

FSIS conducts recall effectiveness checks to ensure the product is removed from commerce. When available, retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS website.

Consumers with questions about the recall may contact the E.A. Sween Company Customer Service Hotline at 1-800-328-8184 (option #2).
