2 killed, 3 flown to hospital following crash on I-78 in Warren County

GREENWICH TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Two people were killed and three others were flown to the hospital following a crash Wednesday night on Interstate 78 in Warren County Wednesday night.

The crash happened at around 11:23 p.m. on Interstate 78 eastbound at milepost 6.2 in Greenwich Township, state police said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that an International tractor semi-trailer was parked on the right shoulder of Interstate 78 when a Lincoln passenger vehicle traveling eastbound entered the right shoulder and impacted the rear of the International., state police said.

As a result of the crash, the driver and a 12-year-old juvenile girl in the rear passenger seat suffered fatal injuries, state police said.

The front seat passenger, a 37-year-old female from Bronx, NY, suffered  serious injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Two additional rear seat passengers, a 6-year-old boy and a 9-month-old girl suffered moderate injuries and were airlifted to a nearby hospital, state police said.

The identity of the driver and the front seat passenger are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification, state police said.

The crash remains under investigation and no additional information was available.
