60-year-old woman accused of stealing over $100 worth of candles from Morris County Weis Markets

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Sussex County woman has been accused of stealing over $100 worth of candles from Weis Markets in Mount Olive Township.

On February 20, at 3:30 p.m., police responded to the Weis Market at 293 Route 206 in Flanders for a report of a past-tense shoplifting incident, authorities said.

Weis Loss Prevention staff reported that a female took multiple candles from the store without paying, totaling $102.19. The suspect left the area before police arrived, authorities said.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that Judith Demarest, 60, of Wantage Township, was allegedly responsible for the theft, police said.

On April 6, Demarest responded to the Mount Olive Police Department, where she was arrested and charged with shoplifting. She was released pending a court appearance, police said.
