Police vehicles turn pink this October to support breast cancer awareness
SOMERVILLE, NJ (Somerset County) – Somerset County officials announced that six police vehicles have been wrapped in pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, along with Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr. and the Somerset County Chiefs of Police Association, revealed the initiative aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer.
The project was funded by Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, the Rutgers Cancer Institute, Peapack-Gladstone Bank, Open Road Auto Group, and the Far Hills Race Meeting Association. The pink vehicles will be used for community engagement throughout Somerset County during the month of October.
Participating law enforcement agencies include the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Far Hills Police Department, Peapack-Gladstone Police Department, Warren Township Police Department, and Watchung Borough Police Department.
Prosecutor McDonald emphasized the importance of awareness, stating, “Breast cancer does not recognize racial, socioeconomic, or jurisdictional boundaries. About 1 in 8 women will be affected by breast cancer in their lifetime. Early detection is a key factor in offering more treatment options and increasing survivability. Law enforcement is in a unique position to help increase awareness of this horrible disease. This campaign is positive proof that our officers are deeply dedicated to the communities they serve.”
A ceremony to unveil the pink police vehicles is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 10:00 a.m. outside the Somerset County Historic Courthouse in Somerville. All six vehicles will be on display, allowing the public to sign and take photographs with them.
Attendees will include members of the participating law enforcement agencies, the Somerset County Board of County Commissioners, Township Committee members, organizers of the Far Hills Race Meeting, and representatives from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset and the Somerset County Chiefs of Police Association.
