Morris County home uninhabitable after 2-alarm fire Sunday
BOONTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Boonton Township home is uninhabitable after a fire broke out there Sunday afternoon, according to the Boonton Township Fire Department.
On Oct. 6, at 1:18 p.m., the department was dispatched to Hillcrest Drive for a reported residential structure fire. Immediate assistance was requested from the Boonton Fire Department and the Mountain Lakes Fire Department, officials said.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames, prompting the fire chief to strike a second alarm, bringing additional units from Parsippany Fire Department District 4, Lake Hiawatha, Denville Fire Department, the County Air Truck, Montville Fire Department, Morris County Canteen, and the Morris County OEM Medical Unit to the scene.
Due to the absence of fire hydrants in the area, the fire chief also requested the Tanker Task Force, which included Rockaway Township Fire Department, Kinnelon Fire Department, Mt. Arlington Fire Department, New Vernon Fire Department, Parsippany Fire Department District 5, and Butler Fire Department, to assist with water supply.
Despite an aggressive interior attack, the house was deemed uninhabitable, and it took approximately an hour and a half to bring the fire under control, officials said.
No firefighters were seriously injured, and there were no occupants in the home at the time of the blaze, authorities said.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, the fire department stated.
