Emergency repairs continue on I-287 southbound in Montville; lane closures expected into next week

MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Emergency repairs continue along Interstate 287 southbound in Morris County, where left and center lanes remain closed between Exit 57 (Skyline Drive) in Oakland and milepost 50, just past the Brook Valley Road Bridge in Montville. The right lane remains open, according to officials.

The ongoing repairs are in response to buckled pavement caused by expanding roadway joints during recent extreme heat. Crews are working overnight and expect to reopen all lanes by Thursday morning’s rush hour, June 26, weather permitting.

In addition to the current repairs, crews are evaluating a 10-mile stretch of I-287 southbound — from Exit 57 in Oakland to the Old Lane Bridge in Montville — for other joints that may require proactive maintenance to prevent future damage.

Work is scheduled to continue during daytime and overnight hours through next week. To reduce traffic impact, all lanes are expected to be open during peak travel times. However, intermittent lane closures will occur as follows:

Thursday, June 26 & Friday, June 27:

• 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Up to two lanes closed
• 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.: All lanes open
• 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.: Up to two lanes closed

Monday, June 30 through Wednesday, July 2:

• 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.: Up to two lanes closed
