Main Street in Blairstown Township to close Aug. 11 for filming of Mama’s Boy, prequel to Friday the 13th

BLAIRSTOWN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — Main Street in Blairstown will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Monday, August 11, to accommodate filming of Mama’s Boy, the working title for the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake. The closure will be in effect from approximately 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to a public notice from township officials. Portions of Bridge Street will also experience intermittent closures throughout the day.

In addition, parking will be prohibited along Main Street from Sunday night, August 10, through 8 p.m. Monday, August 11. Residents or business owners with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact Police Chief Scott Johnsen at SJohnsen@Blairstownpolice.org, according to the Blairstown Police Department.

The filming project—publicly listed under the code name Mama’s Boy—is part of Crystal Lake, an eight-episode streaming series produced by A24 for Peacock that serves as a prequel to the original 1980 Friday the 13th film. Production began in New Jersey in June, with Warren County confirmed as one of the filming locations. Crews are expected to shoot at multiple sites across the state, including iconic spots from the original film, such as Camp NoBeBoSco in Hardwick Township, along with locations in Blairstown and Hope.

The series stars Linda Cardellini (Dead to Me, Freaks and Geeks) as Pamela Voorhees and is directed by Michael Lennox (Derry Girls). Set years before the infamous Camp Crystal Lake killings, the series is expected to explore Pamela’s life as a struggling single mother before her descent into violence.

The fictional “Mama’s Boy” title is a nod to the complex and tragic relationship between Pamela Voorhees and her son Jason—the emotional and psychological core of the franchise.
