Fire at Mount Olive High School quickly extinguished

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A fire at Mount Olive High School, located at 18 Corey Rd. in the Flanders section of the township, was quickly brought under control Sunday morning, officials said.

Flanders Fire Department responded after an alarm was activated and found smoke in a hallway and fire inside a classroom, authorities said. A citywide dispatch was called, and Budd Lake Fire provided additional manpower.

Firefighters extended a hose line into the first floor and rapidly extinguished the blaze, which had ignited carpeting and wall decorations, officials said. Smoke damage was reported in the classroom where the fire began, as well as in the hallway and additional nearby classrooms.

Crews ventilated the building and checked for any fire extension. No one was inside the school at the time of the incident.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
