Phillipsburg man sentenced to seven years in state prison for aggravated assault, weapons offense

PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) – A 20-year-old Phillipsburg man has been sentenced to seven years in state prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a handgun in connection with an August shooting incident, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

Andrew R. Weaver was sentenced Friday, Nov. 21, in Warren County Superior Court by Judge H. Matthew Curry, J.S.C. He pleaded guilty to second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, prosecutors said. Under state law, Weaver must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Phillipsburg police responded to the 400 block of Anderson Street on Aug. 3, 2025, after the town’s ShotSpotter system detected gunfire. Officers arrived to find that several shots had been fired at a residence, with one bullet entering through a window. No one was injured.

Video surveillance from the area identified Weaver as the shooter, authorities said. He was charged and entered as a wanted person in the National Crime Information Center database.

Later that same day, Pennsylvania State Police arrested Weaver during a traffic stop. Troopers found him riding as a passenger in a vehicle and discovered a loaded Glock 9mm handgun during a search, officials said.

The investigation was conducted by the Phillipsburg Police Department.
