Former Warren County Prosecutor Thomas Ferguson dies at 72
PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. (Warren County) — Thomas Scott Ferguson, a longtime attorney and former Warren County prosecutor, died Dec. 23, 2025, at his home in Phillipsburg. He was 72.
Ferguson served as Warren County prosecutor for eight years (2004-2012) and practiced law for decades in the Phillipsburg area. He began his legal career working with D. Scott Curzi before opening his own practice. In addition to his prosecutorial role, he served as municipal attorney for Phillipsburg, Alpha and Lopatcong Township.
Born June 24, 1953, in Orange, New Jersey, Ferguson was the son of the late Thomas G. Ferguson and Patricia Bradley Ferguson. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1971, where he competed in swimming, cross country and wrestling. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University in 1975 and a law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1978.
Ferguson was admitted to practice law in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania and was a member of the state bar associations in both states. A lifelong sports fan, he followed Villanova athletics and the Philadelphia Eagles and remained an avid supporter of Phillipsburg High School sports throughout his life.
Family members said one of his proudest accomplishments was coaching his son, Ryan, in youth sports.
He is survived by his wife, Glenna Campbell Ferguson; his son, Ryan Ferguson; and three brothers, Stewart, Kevin and Chris Ferguson, along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St., Phillipsburg. A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery in Harmony Township.
