Five injured, two airlifted after four-vehicle crash in Sussex County

FRANKFORD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — Five people were injured, including two who were airlifted to trauma centers, following a four-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Frankford Township, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 4:23 p.m. on County Route 565 near Plains Road, according to the Frankford Township Fire Department. The incident was initially reported as a motor vehicle accident with injuries and was later upgraded to a multi-vehicle crash with a reported entrapment and one unresponsive patient.

Firefighters arrived to find four vehicles involved and multiple patients but no entrapment, officials said. Crews immediately began triaging victims to assess their conditions while other responders rendered aid.

After evaluating the scene, officials requested additional resources to assist a total of five patients. Advanced life support and basic life support units responded from multiple agencies.

Two patients sustained injuries requiring rapid transport to a trauma center. Two medical helicopters were dispatched to a landing zone established in the parking lot of Wingle Supply. Fire crews secured the landing zone while emergency medical personnel continued patient care.

Two patients were transported by air to area hospitals, while three others were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.

Authorities did not release information on the severity of the injuries. The cause of the crash was not immediately available.
