Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office hosts crisis intervention training for law enforcement
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office recently hosted a weeklong training program aimed at improving how law enforcement responds to mental health crises.
The Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training, a five-day, 40-hour course, brought together law enforcement officers, mental health professionals and advocates to strengthen response strategies and coordination with local resources.
Officials said the training is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to respond to individuals in crisis in a way that reduces the need for force and minimizes the risk of injury. The course emphasizes understanding mental illness, de-escalation techniques and crisis management, as well as connecting individuals to appropriate support services.
Sussex County Prosecutor Daniel M. Perez thanked local police departments and service providers for their involvement.
Prosecutor Daniel M. Perez would like to thank the Chiefs of Police for giving their officers the opportunity to attend the training and local service providers for their enthusiasm and participation in making the training a success.
