Woman found dead in Somerset County home; investigation underway

SOMERVILLE, N.J. (Somerset County) — Authorities are investigating the death of a 46-year-old woman who was found with multiple lacerations inside her Somerville home Thursday evening.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Somerville police responded to a 911 call at approximately 7:26 p.m. Aug. 6 requesting a welfare check at a residence on Brookside Avenue.

Responding officers found the woman suffering from multiple lacerations to her chest, neck and thigh. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not publicly identified the victim.

Detectives from the Somerville Police Department, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit, along with medical investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, responded to investigate.

Officials said a postmortem examination will be conducted by the medical examiner’s office to confirm the victim’s identity and determine the cause and manner of death.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify the person or persons responsible and determine a motive.
