NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Expectant parents and families with young children can learn about preparing for a baby’s first year during a free event hosted by Project Self-Sufficiency later this month.
The organization’s Baby Beginnings Fair will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, and will provide information about early childhood health and development, parenting techniques and resources available to families.
Representatives from the Child Mind Institute will discuss the importance of self-care during pregnancy and in the months following the arrival of a new baby.
“Accurate information about early childhood and development is crucial for the success of new parents and we are grateful to offer this information session to the community,” explains Deborah Berry-Toon, Executive Director of Project Self-Sufficiency. “In addition to free items for baby and family, the Family Connects NJ Baby Beginnings Fairs allow pregnant women and new parents to engage with area experts and meet others in similar circumstances.”
Attendees will also be able to learn about free and reduced-cost family activities and other resources intended to support parents and young children.
Project Self-Sufficiency will be joined by representatives from SNAP-Ed, the Sussex County Library and Zufall Health.
Lunch will be provided, and attendees will receive free baby items and have opportunities to receive prizes and other giveaways.
The fair is part of the Family Connects NJ program and supplements Project Self-Sufficiency’s other services for pregnant women and parents of young children. Those programs include home visits, monthly Mommy Parties and Parent Cafes.
