Clinton Township police warn residents about TD Bank phishing text scam
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Clinton Township police are warning residents about a phishing scam involving fraudulent text messages that claim to be from TD Bank.
Police said the messages are designed to appear as though they were sent by the financial institution and may include a link for recipients to click.
Authorities are urging anyone who receives a similar message not to click the link, respond to the text or provide personal or financial information.
Residents should instead ignore and delete the message, police said.
The department also reminded residents to use caution whenever they receive unsolicited texts, emails or phone calls claiming there has been potential fraud involving a bank account.
Anyone concerned about possible fraudulent activity should contact their financial institution directly using a verified phone number, website or other trusted method rather than using contact information or links contained in an unsolicited message.
Police advised residents never to provide sensitive information in response to suspicious texts, emails or phone calls.
