“Hunterdon County has a long and proud agricultural tradition, and events like the Snyder Farm Open House give residents an opportunity to see the research and education that help support agriculture in New Jersey,” said Commissioner Kuhl. “It is also a great opportunity to get outside, learn something new, and enjoy one of the best parts of summer — fresh Jersey tomatoes.”

The Snyder Research and Extension Farm is part of the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station and serves as a site for agricultural research, education and outreach.

Visitors will be able to take a wagon tour of the farm to learn about research and extension programs being conducted at the site. Rutgers faculty and staff and Master Gardener volunteers will also be available to answer gardening and research questions.

The open house will feature the farm’s popular tomato tasting, offering visitors an opportunity to sample more than 50 tomato varieties and learn about varieties grown as part of Rutgers’ observational trials.

County officials said agriculture remains an important part of Hunterdon County’s economy, landscape and identity. Through its Department of Planning and Land Use, the county works to support the long-term viability of agriculture and preserve farmland.

Additional information about the open house and tomato tasting is available through the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station’s Snyder Farm website.
