LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A Pennsylvania man was charged with driving while intoxicated after allegedly bypassing traffic cones, road-closure signs and a marked police vehicle in an attempt to avoid a detour in Lopatcong Township, according to police.
The incident occurred around 12:27 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, while Lopatcong Township police were conducting traffic control near routes 57 and 519 because of ongoing roadwork.
Police said an officer observed a vehicle allegedly bypass multiple traffic cones, road-closure signs and a marked police vehicle in an apparent attempt to avoid the designated detour.
The driver, identified as Manuel E. Breve, 43, of Easton, Pennsylvania, was stopped and subsequently arrested following a roadside investigation on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.
Breve was transported to Lopatcong Township Police Headquarters, where breath testing allegedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.13%, according to police.
Breve was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while suspended, possession of an open container, disregarding an officer’s signal, driving through a safety zone, careless driving, reckless driving and failure to maintain lanes.
He was released to a family member pending a future appearance in Lopatcong Municipal Court.
