HILLSBOROUGH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — A 52-year-old Whitehouse Station man died after he was struck by a vehicle in Hillsborough Township on Thursday morning, according to police.
Hillsborough Township police responded at about 5:44 a.m. to 330 Roycefield Road for a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle.
Police identified the victim as Vernon McLaughlin III, 52, of Whitehouse.
McLaughlin was unresponsive when officers arrived, and police began providing medical attention. He was later transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, where he was pronounced dead.
The initial investigation determined that a 64-year-old Hillsborough man was parking a vehicle next to a building when McLaughlin was struck, police said.
New Jersey State Police Aviation, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital emergency medical units, the Somerville Rescue Squad and Hillsborough Fire Safety assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and Hillsborough Township Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau.
