HARDING TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Dicksons Mill Road will close to through traffic beginning Monday, Sept. 21, as Morris County begins a nearly $1.44 million project to replace the bridge over Silver Brook.
The closure will begin after the morning rush hour and is expected to remain in place for approximately six months, weather permitting, according to Morris County.
Motorists will be directed to a signed detour of approximately 2.5 miles using Spring Valley Road and Blue Mill Road. Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during construction.
Work is scheduled to take place weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The existing single-span bridge was built in 1923 and widened in 1984. County officials said the structure has deteriorated over time, with minor cracking in its prestressed concrete beams, water leaking through roadway beam joints and some material loss in the foundation area.
The county determined that replacing the bridge was the most practical long-term solution.
The new bridge will feature prestressed concrete beams with a concrete deck, stone-faced concrete wingwalls and a four-bar steel railing.
The $1,436,895 project is funded by the New Jersey Department of Transportation through its Local Bridges Fund Program. CMS Construction of Plainfield is completing the work under contract with Morris County.
