HUNTERDON COUNTY, N.J. — Hunterdon County’s Bridge Division completed a series of bridge repair and maintenance projects across the county this summer, including work on bridge decks, stone walls, guiderails and a historic stone arch bridge.
Hunterdon County Commissioner Zach Rich highlighted the work during the Sept. 15 meeting of the Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners.
“The Bridge Division has been extremely busy this summer, completing a wide range of repair and maintenance projects across Hunterdon County,” said Rich. “With more than 2,100 bridges and culverts under the County’s responsibility, maintaining this infrastructure is an important year-round commitment.”
Recent projects included concrete deck repairs on Burrell Road in Tewksbury Township and Hampton Corner Road in Raritan Township, along with steel deck repairs on Farmersville Road in Tewksbury Township.
In Kingwood Township, crews completed priority repairs to the Milltown Road bridge, rebuilding a failed stone wingwall and repairing the bridge’s lower chord truss.
Bridge Division employees also completed stone headwall, wingwall and retaining wall repairs in Delaware, Holland and Kingwood townships.
Among those projects was work on Bridge D-441 on Buchanan Road in Delaware Township, a historic stone arch structure included in the county’s historic preservation inventory. The county said repairs were performed to maintain the character of the historic masonry.
Crews also repaired railings and guiderails damaged by fallen trees and motor vehicle crashes in Glen Gardner, Milford, Bethlehem, Holland and Kingwood.
Additional guiderail improvements were completed along County Route 627 in connection with the completion of the H-49 bridge project in Holland Township.
Beyond its regular bridge work, the division assisted with construction of the new Hilltop 9/11 Memorial, including installing the entrance gate and helping set the monument stone and plaques.
“I want to thank our Bridge Division employees for the tremendous amount of work they accomplished throughout the summer,” Rich said. “Much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but their work is essential to keeping our roads and bridges safe, preserving important County infrastructure, and ensuring that these assets continue to serve our residents for years to come.”
