WHIPPANY, N.J. (Morris County) — The Hanover Wind Symphony will present a free concert featuring music ranging from Broadway and jazz to film scores Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Memorial Junior School in Whippany.
The “Versatile Winds” concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the school, located at 61 Highland Ave.
“The modern wind band has an amazing ability to perform so many different musical genres and styles, from Broadway to brass band and jazz to film scores. This concert will showcase HWS’s extraordinary versatility. There is something here for everyone,” said Matthew Paterno of Parsippany, the symphony’s music director and conductor.
The program will include “Fire in the Blood,” by Paul Lovatt-Cooper; “Tico-Tico,” by Zequinha de Abreu; “A Child Is Born,” by Ciro Dammicco and Dario Baldan Bembo; and a medley from Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story.”
The symphony will also perform “Fearless,” by Carol Brittin Chambers; “How to Train Your Dragon,” by John Powell; and Johann Strauss’ “Radetzky March.”
The Hanover Wind Symphony has performed throughout the area for more than 40 years. Its volunteer musicians come from a variety of professions and share a goal of bringing live wind band performances to the community and mentoring future generations of musicians.
