Gold Star Mothers and Families honored during stone dedication ceremony in Hackettstown
HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Warren County) — Gold Star Mothers and Families were honored Sunday during a stone dedication ceremony organized by American Legion Auxiliary Unit #164 and held at American Legion Blue Ridge Post #164 in Hackettstown.
Hackettstown Mayor Jerry DiMaio was among those who participated in the ceremony, which honored families who have lost a loved one as a result of active-duty military service and recognized the sacrifices made by their loved ones.
During his remarks, DiMaio spoke about remembering those who died while serving the country and the families who continue to carry their memory forward.
“This day is about remembering the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country – and honoring the families who carry their memory forward every day.”
DiMaio also recognized the strength and sacrifice of Gold Star families.
“Their lives mattered. Their sacrifice mattered. And because of them, we stand here today with the freedom to live, to gather, and to call this country home.”
DiMaio concluded his remarks by offering words of comfort to Gold Star families.
“May you find moments of comfort today in the embrace of one another, in the shared understanding of this community, and in the enduring knowledge that your heroes live on through you and through a grateful nation.”
DiMaio was joined at the ceremony by American Legion Blue Ridge Post #164 Commander Dennis Dyer; Virginia “Ginny” Chiller of Blue Star Mothers of North Warren NJ; and Jennie DeNaro Saum, vice president of American Legion Auxiliary Unit #164 and chair of the Blue & Gold Mothers/Families Committee.
