RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — County College of Morris is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of legendary artist and educator Joe Kubert and five decades of The Joe Kubert School with a special gallery exhibit.
“The Legacy of Joe Kubert and 50 Years of The Joe Kubert School” is on display through Nov. 5 at the CCM Gallery. An opening reception will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
Kubert founded The Joe Kubert School in 1976. The school has educated generations of aspiring cartoonists, illustrators and visual storytellers.
The exhibit explores Kubert’s influence on the comics and illustration industries and highlights generations of artists and storytellers who carried his lessons and commitment to the art form into their own careers.
“The school has spent 50 years helping artists explore their creative potential, with the iconic Cartoon Graphics program having helped launch the careers of generations of students,” said Anthony Marques, director of The Joe Kubert School at CCM. “As an alumnus, it is incredibly meaningful to lead that legacy forward, while celebrating an exciting new chapter at CCM.”
County College of Morris acquired The Joe Kubert School in fall 2026, bringing the school’s legacy and industry connections to the college while expanding opportunities for students pursuing careers in comics, illustration, animation and graphic storytelling.
The school has relationships with companies including DC Comics, Marvel Comics, IDW Publishing and Dynamite Entertainment, providing students with access to working professionals and career insights. Alumni have worked for companies including Walt Disney Animation, Warner Bros. and Pixar Animation Studios.
The Joe Kubert School’s full-time certificate program continues to be offered in a traditional daytime format. Additional programs include Advanced Studies, Online Studies and Saturday classes for children.
The CCM Gallery is located in the Sherman H. Masten Learning Resource Center on the college’s campus at 214 Center Grove Road in Randolph. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
