RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Hunterdon Health’s Board of Trustees has appointed Kristy Alfano as president and CEO of the health system, effective Sept. 24.
Alfano, who has served as interim president and CEO since July, will continue leading Hunterdon Health as its proposed strategic partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health moves forward.
“The Board’s unanimous decision reflects our strong confidence in Kristy’s leadership, deep knowledge of the organization, and ability to guide Hunterdon Health at a pivotal time,” said Hunterdon Health Board Chair Dr. K.C. Rondello. “Kristy has demonstrated that she can lead with both steadiness and vision, and we are grateful for her willingness to take on this responsibility as we continue our efforts to pursue a strategic partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health.”
Alfano has spent much of her career at Hunterdon Health, beginning as a nurse at Hunterdon Medical Center and advancing through a series of leadership positions.
Her previous roles include director of the Intermediate Care Unit, director of Patient Care Experience, director of the Emergency Department, assistant vice president of Clinical Operations and executive vice president and chief operating officer. She most recently served as interim president and CEO.

Alfano holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on health care administration. She also completed a fellowship through the Advisory Board focused on health care.
A Hunterdon County native, Alfano was born at Hunterdon Medical Center and continues to live in the county with her husband, Dan Spencer. She raised her two children in Hunterdon County.
Alfano is also a member of the inaugural 2012 class of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Hunterdon program. She was elected to the chamber’s board in May.
As president and CEO, Alfano will work with physicians, staff and leaders across Hunterdon Health to advance the health system’s strategic priorities, strengthen the patient experience and position the organization for long-term success.
