More than 1.5 million pounds of meat, poultry products recalled nationwide over temperature concerns

Kayem Foods Inc. is recalling approximately 1.58 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products that may have been stored at unsafe temperatures, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The recall, announced Saturday, Oct. 17, involves products manufactured by the Chelsea, Massachusetts-based company between approximately March 31 and Oct. 7, 2026. The affected products were distributed to retail stores and foodservice locations nationwide, as well as Hong Kong.

Federal officials said the recall was initiated after Kayem Foods received a complaint from a retail customer on Oct. 1 about products arriving at unusually warm temperatures. An investigation by the company determined that various ready-to-eat meat and poultry products had been stored in a warehouse cooler that experienced temperature deviations.

The affected products were sold in various weights and can be identified by the establishment numbers “EST. M/P 7839,” “EST. P 20935A” and “EST. M 9520” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Consumers can review the complete list of recalled products and UPC codes, along with product labels, on the USDA website to determine whether they purchased any of the affected items.

According to FSIS, there have been no confirmed reports of illness associated with consumption of the recalled products. However, federal officials are concerned that some of the products may still be stored in consumers’ refrigerators.

Consumers who purchased the recalled products are urged not to eat them. Instead, the products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of a foodborne illness or concerned about possible illness after consuming the products should contact a health care provider.

FSIS said it will conduct recall effectiveness checks to ensure Kayem Foods has notified its customers and that the affected products are removed from distribution and no longer available for purchase. Retail distribution lists will be posted on the agency’s website when available.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Kayem Foods Customer Service at 800-426-6100, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern time, or email info@kayem.com.
