Firefighters battle fully engulfed vehicle fire on Route 31 in Hunterdon County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — Volunteer firefighters battled a fully engulfed vehicle fire on Route 31 northbound near Cratetown Road in Clinton Township during Friday’s rush hour, according to the Township of Clinton Division of Fire.

Firefighters from Annandale Hose Company responded to the scene, where they encountered heavy black smoke, intense heat and flames engulfing the vehicle.

Crews quickly deployed a hose line and knocked down the flames. However, leaking fuel created additional challenges, requiring firefighters to use foam to fully extinguish the blaze.

According to fire officials, the response involved coordination among volunteer firefighters and chief officers, who worked together to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading.

The Clinton Township Police Department also assisted with scene safety and helped protect firefighters as they worked.

The cause of the fire was not provided, and officials did not report whether anyone was injured.
