Algae bloom declared over at Mountain Lake ahead of holiday weekend

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — The Mountain Lake Community Association announced Thursday that the recent algae bloom has officially cleared, just in time for the holiday weekend.

Samples were collected on Monday, June 30, and Tuesday, July 1. The results, posted by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), showed cyanobacteria cell counts of 19,375 cells/mL and 18,250 cells/mL. Toxin levels measured at 0.29 and 0.32 micrograms per liter. All readings fall below the NJDEP’s threshold of concern and indicate the absence of a bloom.

“With the holiday weekend about to commence, the timing could not be better,” the association stated.

As a result, all activities — including swimming, the ingestion of water by pets, and the consumption of fish caught in the lake — are now safe to resume. The lake is officially in the clear.
