All I-80 westbound lanes reopen in Wharton Borough; eastbound lanes expected to fully reopen June 25

WHARTON BOROUGH, N.J. (Morris County) — All lanes on I-80 westbound in Wharton have reopened following overnight paving and striping work, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

The westbound lanes were closed and detoured at Exit 34B/Jefferson/Sparta beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, June 13, as crews completed final paving and striping. Before 7 a.m. Saturday, June 14, all westbound lanes were reopened to traffic.

Meanwhile, I-80 eastbound continues to operate with two open lanes. A single lane closure is planned overnight next week as crews work to remove construction barriers and complete paving. All eastbound lanes are expected to reopen by Wednesday, June 25, weather permitting.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Monday, June 16, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, and continuing each night through Friday, June 20, one of the two open lanes on I-80 eastbound is scheduled to close before Exit 34. At least one lane will remain open during these overnight operations.

Motorists are reminded to slow down and exercise caution in the work zone, where the speed limit remains 40 mph.

Crews are working around the clock to complete the repairs, and NJDOT will provide updates at www.511nj.org.

An I-80 project page and travel time information for alternate routes are also available on the site.
