Alleged drunk driver crashes into police car in Morris County
MORRIS PLAINS BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – An alleged drunk driver crashed into a Morris Plains Borough police car early Thursday morning while two officers were conducting a traffic stop.
On Thursday, Nov. 21, at 12:31 a.m., two Morris Plains police officers were conducting a routine traffic stop when a drunk driver crashed into their patrol car. Fortunately, both officers avoided severe injury in the crash, and thanks to the close call, two wives were able to keep their husbands and five young children their fathers, police said.
However, police are using this incident as a stark reminder about the dangers of drinking and driving. “Too many families aren’t as lucky,” police said. “Especially around the holidays, but all year round, please don’t drink and drive.”
The department is urging the public to take precautionary measures, such as designating a driver, using rideshare services, or ensuring someone else takes the keys from loved ones who plan on drinking.
Police have not released further information about the incident at this time.
