Applebee’s kicks off annual fundraiser for Alex’s Lemonade Stand to fight childhood cancer
NEW JERSEY — Applebee’s® restaurants across the country, including Doherty-owned locations in New Jersey, have launched their annual fundraiser to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit dedicated to funding pediatric cancer research and family support programs.
The campaign, which runs through August 31, marks the 21st year of partnership between Applebee’s and ALSF. Since the collaboration began in 2005, Applebee’s has raised more than $18 million, helping fund over 360,000 hours of pediatric cancer research.
In celebration of this milestone, Applebee’s restaurants are transforming into “Lemonade Stands” and inviting guests to take part in a number of donation opportunities — both in-store and online.
Ways to Give at New Jersey Applebee’s
At Doherty-owned Applebee’s locations across New Jersey, guests can join the cause by:
- Purchasing paper lemon tags for $1, $5, $10 or more, with 100% of the proceeds going to ALSF.
- Adding the ALSF menu item when ordering online at Applebees.com to contribute a direct donation.
- Enjoying a featured Mucho Cocktail, where $0.25 from each drink will be donated to ALSF.
- Ordering the new Strawberry Lemon Sunshine in-restaurant, with $0.50 from every purchase benefiting the foundation.
Nationwide, diners can also participate by adding digital lemons to their online order, contributing during gift card purchases, or visiting their local Applebee’s to learn about store-specific fundraising events.
A Legacy of Hope
“We’re honored to celebrate 21 years of partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and to have raised more than $18 million to fund lifesaving pediatric cancer research,” said John Peyton, Applebee’s president and CEO of parent company Dine Brands. “At Applebee’s, we take ‘Doin’ Good in the Neighborhood’ to heart.”
Liz Scott, co-executive director of ALSF and mother of founder Alexandra “Alex” Scott, praised the restaurant’s dedication: “Applebee’s is one of ALSF’s most dedicated partners. Their national reach has helped introduce countless people to our cause and has made a real impact in the fight against childhood cancer.”
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation began with a backyard lemonade stand run by Alex Scott, a young girl battling cancer who dreamed of helping other children like her. Before her passing at age 8, Alex had raised $1 million. Her legacy has since grown into a nationwide movement and the largest independent childhood cancer charity in the country.
