Assemblywoman Dunn announces I-80 paving project, highlights $150M in county infrastructure aid
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — Although the emergency repairs on Route 80 sinkholes have been completed, Assemblywoman Aura Dunn says the work to strengthen New Jersey’s transportation infrastructure is just getting started.
In a statement this week, Dunn highlighted two major developments: a new yearlong paving project along Route 80 and the release of $150 million in state transportation aid to counties.
“The response to the Route 80 crisis demonstrated how effective government can be when there is transparency, urgency, and a commitment to getting results,” Dunn said. “That same approach is now carrying forward into new projects that matter to our region.”
According to Dunn, the New Jersey Department of Transportation will begin a pavement preservation project on Route 80 between Route 206 and Route 202 starting Aug. 27. The work includes milling, paving, and restriping to improve safety and extend the life of the heavily traveled highway. Nighttime lane closures are expected during the duration of the yearlong project.
Additionally, Dunn noted that the state has released $150 million in FY26 County Aid through the Transportation Trust Fund, which will support local infrastructure improvements without increasing the burden on property taxpayers.
Dunn encouraged residents to continue reporting road issues and utilizing the NJDOT Pothole Reporting Tool, available at nj.gov/transportation/commuter/potholeform.shtm, and to check 511nj.org for real-time travel updates.
“These updates are just one part of the broader work ahead,” Dunn said. “Whether responding to emergencies or advocating for long-term solutions, I remain focused on improving safety, supporting mobility, and delivering results for the people of this district.”
